The Doctor is in!

MSU College of Veterinary Medicine Vet Vanessa Cook finished 2nd at USA Triathlon’s Duathlon National Championships in Bend, Ore., Saturday three weeks after taking 3rd at the ITU World Championships in Spain.imgres

Cook finished 9th overall in the field of 108 women and qualified for the 2017 ITU Standard Distance Duathlon World Championship in Penticton, Canada.

Cook came off the opening 10K run second in the Women’s 45-49 field and was never threatened, finishing with a nearly 5-minute cushion in 2:26:48.

Cook had the second-fastest bike split in the age group, averaging 19 mph over the 24.8-mile course (1:18:14), then ticked off 7:20 miles in the closing 5K run (22:45.58).


Geraldine Lupini, 53, of Milford, earned a trip to the 2017 ITU Sprint Distance Duathlon World Championships in Penticton, Canada with her 3rd place finish at USAT’s Sprint Duathlon National Championships Saturday in Bend, Ore.imgres

The 2014 ITU Sprint Distance Women’s 50-54 World Champion and 2015 USAT Women’s 50-54 National Champion finished 3rd in the 50-54 age group Saturday and 31st in the 123-racer women’s field in 1:18:38.

Fifth after the opening 5K run, Lupini moved up with a nearly 19 mph average on 12.4-mile bike and held strong during the closing 2.5K run.
