Dexter’s Jody Werner, 40, was the top Michigan woman Saturday at the 40th Grandma’s Marathon under sunny skies and 70-degree temperatures in Duluth, Minn.RunningICON

Werner was seventh among 565 women 40-44 and 81st of 3,741 women overall in 3:24.19.

Werner set off at a steady tempo then lowered her splits from the halfway point on to move steady through the field from 185th in the age group at the start.

Ironwood’s Donna Gering, 51, wasn’t far behind, finishing 2nd among 218 women 50-54 and 86th overall in 3:25:41. Gering started and finished fast, moving into the top three in her age group at the 20-mile mark.

Gretchen Hein, 27, of Grand Rapids was third among Michigan, finishing 124th in the women’s field in 3:31.

Top Michigan age groupers were: Tamara Schuler, 55, of Constantine, 5th among women 55-59 in 3:46:48 and Enni Gregas, 71, of Bessemer, 5th among women 70-74 in 6:16:59.
