Michigan women Natalie Dale and Jennifer Romano-McDougal finished grueling trail runs in California last weekend, notching notable finishes.

Shadow of the Giants 50K

Natalie Dale, 38, of Portage finished 11th among women 30-39 and was the 27th woman overall in the Shadow of the Giants 50K (31-mile) trail run Saturday in Fish Camp, Calif., near Yosemite National Park.RunningICON

Dale finished the course, which climbed to 6,500 feet and passed through a grove of 3,000-year-old Giant Sequoias, in 6:56:17.

Women’s overall and 30-39 winner Sarah Ferguson of Coarsegold, Calif., (not the Duchess of York) finished in 4:16:49.

20th Annual Holcomb Valley Trail Run

Jennifer Romano-McDougal, 35, of Lincoln Park, finish 8th among women 30-39 and 21st overall in the rocky 7-mile Holcomb Valley Trail Run Sunday near Big Bear Lake, Calif.

Romano finished in 2:02:17 over a course that followed forest service roads and the Pacific Crest Trail in the mountainous San Bernardino National Forest 100 miles east of Los Angeles.
