Rockford’s Janelle Cole and Grand Rapids native Allie Dragoo did the Mitten proud Sunday at the Philadelphia International Cycling Classic stop on the UCI’s Women’s World Tour.

Cole finished a slim 4 seconds out the Best Young Rider Jersey and 19th overall in her WWT debut after Twenty16 Ridebiker p/b Sho-Air teammate Dragoo blew the race to smithereens on the final lap.

Cole powered up the last of six trips up the infamous Manayunk Wall to finish 37 seconds behind runaway World Tour leader Megan Gaurnier of Boels-Dolmans. The Top 20 finish slotted the impressive junior racer into 96th in the UCI WWT individual points standings.

As so often this season, things came together perfectly for Gaurnier at the end of the race, but not before Dragoo set off a mad scramble by riding off the front to a 20-second lead midway through the last of six laps in the 118.76k (73.8 mile) race.

It was the same move Dragoo used to perfection to win Stage 3 of the Energiewacht Tour in Groningen, the Netherlands earlier this season. Dragoo’s move set off a series of frantic attacks that saw one team after another try to take command in the closing kilometers and helped Twenty16 teammate Alison Jackson take 10th, 16 seconds behind Gaurnier.

The Top 10 finish popped Jackson in 55th in the WWT points race.
